Canadian high commissioner calls on prime minister

Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Canada, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House on Wednesday.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and the Foreign Secretary were also present during the meeting.

The prime minister congratulated the high commissioner on his appointment and expressed confidence that his tenure would further strengthen the long-standing and friendly relations between Pakistan and Canada. He conveyed warm regards for the Canadian leadership and said he looked forward to working closely to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Highlighting mines and minerals as an important area of mutual interest, the prime minister noted that Barrick Gold’s role in the Reko Diq project would serve as a success story of Pakistan–Canada economic partnership and contribute to Pakistan’s development.

The Canadian high commissioner thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in agriculture, energy, trade, investment, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The prime minister also appreciated the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Canada, describing them as a vital bridge between the two countries.
