NAB achieves historic milestone, recovers record Rs8,397 billion in corruption cases

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has achieved a historic milestone, recovering record amounts in cases of corruption, fraud, and illegal government land allocations over the past two and a half years, sources confirmed.

Officials reported that NAB recovered PKR 8,397 billion between March 2023 and October 2025, marking the largest recovery in the country’s history. To put this in perspective, from its establishment in 1999 until February 2023—a span of 23 years—NAB had recovered only Rs 883 billion. This tenfold increase highlights a period of unprecedented institutional performance.

Authorities expect an additional PKR 2,000 billion in recoveries by the end of this year, which would further elevate the total figures.

A key achievement during this period was the reclamation of large-scale government land allocations through the Land Directorate, with the value of recovered lands running into trillions of rupees. This underscores NAB’s strong stance against misappropriation and its commitment to accountability.

Sources said the record recoveries reflect the bureau’s enhanced operational efficiency and dedication to combating corruption across public and private sectors.

The achievement is being hailed as historic in Pakistan’s accountability history, setting a high standard for future anti-corruption initiatives and demonstrating the government’s commitment to financial transparency and safeguarding public resources.
