PM Shehbaz Sharif, Erdogan stress restraint amid rising regional tensions

Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the prevailing regional situation, as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.

During the call, the two leaders underscored the importance of exercising maximum restraint by all parties to prevent further escalation and to safeguard regional peace and stability.

Expressing deep concern over the intensifying crisis in the Middle East, the prime minister strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack on Iran, as well as subsequent attacks on other brotherly Gulf countries. He reiterated Pakistan’s principled position in support of peace, dialogue and respect for sovereignty.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also apprised President Erdogan of his recent outreach to the leadership of brotherly Gulf nations, reaffirming Pakistan’s full solidarity with them. He conveyed Islamabad’s readiness to play a constructive role in diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and resolution of the crisis.

The prime minister further took the Turkish president into confidence regarding recent developments related to Afghanistan and shared Pakistan’s perspective on the evolving situation.

Both leaders agreed to remain in close and frequent contact and to continue working together for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
