CM Maryam Nawaz forms economic transformation committee in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has established a provincial Economic Transformation Committee aimed at driving sector-wise development and strengthening the economy of Punjab.

The 11-member committee will be headed by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, while the provincial Finance Secretary will serve as the committee’s secretary.

According to sources, the committee will identify potential growth areas at the district level through economic mapping and prioritize sectors for the establishment of industry clusters. It will also set actionable indicators and develop both short- and long-term timelines for economic initiatives.

The plans will be formulated in consultation with private-sector stakeholders to ensure feasibility and effectiveness. The committee will also focus on skill development programmes aligned with industry requirements and work to connect locally produced value-added products with global value chains.

In addition, the body will take steps to create a sustainable ecosystem to support long-term economic growth.

Proposals under consideration include developing specialized industry hubs across the province, such as dairy products in Sahiwal, IT software in Lahore, garment and leather clusters as well as technical textiles and furniture in Faisalabad, surgical and sports goods in Gujranwala, and fans, rice exports, and home appliances in Gujrat.
