Azma Bokhari has said that the Punjab government’s “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” programme is a major step toward strengthening both agriculture and the provincial economy.
Speaking about the initiative, she highlighted that multiple projects have been launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to generate employment and support economic growth across Punjab.
Bokhari said the programme aims to convert barren land into cultivable farmland, adding that government-owned land worth around Rs160 billion will be leased for 10 years. The initiative is expected to benefit over 88,000 families, with land strictly designated for agricultural use and supported by technical guidance for farmers.
She noted that more than 900 applications have already been received, while farmers are being offered land valued between Rs2.5 million and Rs4 million, with plot sizes ranging from one to five acres in selected areas. A one-time grant of Rs50,000 will also be provided to eligible beneficiaries.
The minister added that Punjab’s wheat production has surpassed its target, attributing the achievement to effective agricultural policies. She also pointed to complementary initiatives such as the Kisan Card and Green Tractor schemes, which are contributing to the sector’s growth.
In addition to agriculture-focused measures, Bokhari revealed that the provincial government has allocated 50 acres of land for a film city project, which will feature modern studios and production facilities.
She reiterated that the government remains committed to continuing public welfare projects and supporting affected communities without interruption.
