The National Assembly is set to inaugurate Pakistan’s first artificial intelligence-based parliamentary system today, marking a significant step towards the development of a secure and sovereign AI-driven digital infrastructure for legislative work.
The initiative has been developed jointly by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the National Information Technology Board (NITB), and will be formally inaugurated by the Speaker of the National Assembly alongside Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja.
Officials said the AI-powered system is designed to modernise parliamentary and legislative processes by making them faster, more efficient and aligned with contemporary digital requirements.
The platform will include features such as bill summarisation, drafting of parliamentary questions, smart document search, speech assistance, and intelligent meeting management tools to support lawmakers and parliamentary staff.
It will also incorporate an AI-based conversational chatbot, along with automated retrieval of legal clauses, articles and statutory references to assist in legislative business.
According to authorities, parliamentary officers will be able to review bills within minutes, while AI-generated legislative summaries will be available in both Urdu and English. The system will also convert lengthy legislative documents into concise, structured formats for ease of use.
Officials added that the smart meeting management feature is expected to enhance administrative efficiency, while the overall system is aimed at improving transparency, speed and effectiveness in the lawmaking process.
