LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday directed authorities to strictly enforce the ban on collection of sacrificial animal hides by proscribed religious outfits and prevent the spread of hate material during Eidul Azha as she ordered comprehensive security arrangements across the province.
Chairing a meeting to review Eid security and administrative arrangements, the chief minister ordered real-time monitoring of security operations through the Safe City system and directed district police officers to personally visit areas to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on camps established by banned organisations for collection of sacrificial hides. The chief minister further instructed authorities to curb dissemination of hate material on social media and other platforms and ordered strict action against one-wheeling and hooliganism by motorcyclists during Eid holidays.She directed authorities to install metal detectors and walk-through gates at Eid congregations and instructed assistant commissioners to meet religious scholars and brief them on the Punjab government’s security and cleanliness measures. The chief minister ordered foolproof implementation of security SOPs during Chand Raat and Eidul Azha. During the briefing, Home Secretary Punjab Ahmad Javed Qazi informed the meeting that Eid prayers would be offered at 38,507 locations across the province.
The meeting was told that Section 144 had been imposed to ban roasting of siri paye at public places, while action would also be taken against those disposing of animal remains in drains and public areas. The chief minister also directed authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on aerial firing and display of weapons during Eidul Azha. Maryam Nawaz ordered extraordinary security arrangements at sensitive locations and directed authorities to ensure effective patrolling in markets on Chand Raat along with deployment of women police personnel.
