The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged citizens to immediately block any mobile SIM card registered in their name but being used by another person, warning that such cases could lead to legal and security issues.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the PTA said that allowing someone else to use a SIM card registered under another individual’s identity is against the law. The authority cautioned that if a SIM registered in a person’s name is used in any illegal activity, the registered owner may be held responsible.
The PTA advised citizens to regularly check the number of SIM cards issued against their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). Users can verify their SIM registration details through the official SIM information portal or by sending their CNIC number, without dashes, to 668.
The authority further urged the public to block any unknown, unnecessary or suspicious SIM cards linked to their identity to prevent misuse.
The PTA also advised consumers to obtain new SIM cards only from authorised franchises and customer service centres. It said further information and guidance are available on its official website.
