Pakistan and the United States have made notable progress in bilateral relations, with Pakistan emerging as an important partner of the administration of Donald Trump, according to a report by Vox.
The report stated that Pakistan played a key diplomatic role during the 2026 US-Iran conflict, facilitating communication, ceasefire efforts and negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
According to Vox, Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif led Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach, with Islamabad hosting what the publication described as the highest-level talks between the United States and Iran since 1979. Both countries reportedly viewed Pakistan as a trusted intermediary.
The report noted that President Trump publicly praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and said the current US administration has adopted a significantly different approach towards Islamabad compared to his first term, marking what it described as a historic shift in bilateral relations.
It further highlighted progress in counterterrorism cooperation and strategic agreements between the two countries. Pakistan and the United States have also reportedly reached major deals in the cryptocurrency and rare earth minerals sectors.
According to the report, evolving US strategic priorities have increased Pakistan’s regional and global importance. It added that Pakistan has maintained effective relations with the United States, China, Saudi Arabia and Iran, strengthening its position in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
The publication observed that Pakistan has enhanced its international standing through contributions to conflict resolution and diplomatic engagement. However, it cautioned that dependence on US support and ongoing regional instability remain key challenges despite Pakistan’s growing diplomatic profile.
