Torrential rains and flood-like conditions caused widespread devastation across Pakistan, claiming at least 14 lives and leaving dozens of others injured as severe weather battered several parts of the country.
In Swat, six tourists lost their lives after a boat overturned in Saifullah Lake. Rescue teams recovered the bodies, while the search for a missing woman continued. According to officials, all of the victims belonged to the same family.
In Attock, three people, including two brothers, were killed in separate incidents after walls and roofs collapsed. Five others were also injured.
In Landi Kotal, two children died and four others were injured after lightning struck the area. In Upper Dir, 20 female students at a madrassa were injured in another lightning strike.
In Zhob, heavy rain caused roofs to collapse, killing a woman and a child. Another person lost his life after being struck by lightning in Ganjial Qaidabad.
In Abbottabad, three people were injured when their vehicle was swept away by a rain-fed stream. In Mardan, two children and another person suffered injuries after a wall and a signboard collapsed during the storm.
The downpours also brought relief from the scorching heat in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. However, in Lahore, heavy rain disrupted electricity supply after several power feeders tripped.
Rainfall was also reported in Attock, Pindi Bhattian, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Bhera, Hafizabad, Kasur and Muridke. In Gujrat, heavy showers led to water accumulation in several low-lying areas.
In Haripur and Abbottabad, overflowing streams and rainwater flooded roads and markets, disrupting routine life. Rain and hailstorms were also reported in Swabi, Khuzdar, Zhob and Kohlu, while parts of Karachi experienced cloudy skies and light drizzle.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh weather alert, warning of possible flooding caused by glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. The authority also cautioned about sudden surges in hill torrents and seasonal streams in vulnerable areas.
