The body of late entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali was exhumed on Saturday as part of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
His remains were exhumed from Society Cemetery on Tariq Road following a court order, after which samples were collected for a forensic post-mortem examination.
Members of the medical board, Mir Raza’s family and his lawyer, Jibran Nasir, were present at the cemetery. A heavy police contingent was also deployed and security was tightened around the site.
The medical board collected multiple samples from the remains, including DNA samples. The board also decided to obtain DNA samples from Mir Raza’s parents for further examination.
Officials said different parts of the remains were examined, with specialists on the medical board conducting independent assessments.
The police surgeon, head of the identification project and a magistrate were also present during the exhumation.
Mir Raza, an Institute of Business Administration (IBA) graduate and entrepreneur, went missing after leaving his home on the night of July 28. He had told his family that he would return within 10 minutes.
His body was later found in bushes in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Meanwhile, police have continued to investigate a new audio message allegedly recorded by Mir Raza. According to media reports, investigators have made progress after a man identified as Ali Shad provided them with a WhatsApp audio message purportedly recorded by the entrepreneur.
Police have also obtained details from several individuals who had financial dealings with Mir Raza.
In the audio message, Mir Raza can allegedly be heard discussing financial matters and payments. According to reports, he proposed a payment arrangement involving three cheques worth Rs1 million each, to be issued at 10-day intervals.
