ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday approved the appointment of additional judges and the confirmation of several existing additional judges in various high courts across the country.
According to a Presidnent House statement, the president approved the appointment of additional judges to the Lahore High Court, Sindh High Court, Peshawar High Court, Islamabad High Court, and Balochistan High Court.
He also approved the confirmation of additional judges of the Sindh High Court and the Lahore High Court as permanent judges.
In another decision, the president approved bringing the salaries, allowances, and pensions of Supreme Court judges at par with those of the judges of the Federal Constitutional Court.
He also approved amendments to the 1997 Order concerning the leave, pension, and privileges of High Court judges. In a separate decision, President Zardari approved the appointment of Haroon Akhtar as the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production.
The Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday issued notifications for the appointment of additional and permanent judges to various high courts across the country.According to the notifications issued by the ministry, three additional judges have been appointed to the Islamabad High Court for a period of one year with effect from the date they take oath.They are Ayaz Shaukat, Advocate Supreme Court; Umair Majeed Malik, Advocate Supreme Court; and Shahrukh Arjumand, District and Sessions Judge.
The ministry also notified the appointment of 10 additional judges of the Lahore High Court for a period of one year. They include Ghulam Sarwar Nihung, Muhammad Ajmal Khan Zahid, Amir Ajam Malik, Shireen Imran, Asad Ali Bajwa, Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz, Khalid Ibn-i-Aziz, Munawar Iqbal Duggal, Syed Farhad Ali Shah and Muhammad Usman Ghani Rashid Cheema, all Advocates Supreme Court.In a separate notification, Justice Tariq Mehmood Bajwa, Additional Judge of the Lahore High Court, has been appointed as a Judge of the Lahore High Court under Article 193 of the Constitution, with effect from the date he takes oath.
Three additional judges have also been appointed to the High Court of Balochistan for a period of one year. They are Muhammad Rauf Atta, Advocate Supreme Court; Allah Dad Roshan, District and Sessions Judge and Abdul Qayyum Lehri, District and Sessions Judge.
For the High Court of Sindh, Muhammad Humayon Khan, Advocate High Court; Suresh Kumar, District and Sessions Judge; and Dr Shah Nawaz Memon, Advocate Supreme Court, have been appointed as additional judges for one year.The ministry also notified a six-month extension in the tenure of Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani, Additional Judge of the High Court of Sindh, with effect from the expiry of his existing term.
Meanwhile, four additional judges of the Peshawar High Court Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Inam Ullah Khan, Justice Sabit Ullah Khan and Justice Aurangzeb have been appointed as judges of the said court.
The notifications said the appointments were made by the President under the relevant provisions of the Constitution, following the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan where applicable.
