ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to utilise all available resources to provide relief to people affected by rains and strengthen coordination with provincial departments and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs).
The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, who called on him in Islamabad.
He directed relevant departments to enhance coordination to ensure smooth traffic flow on link roads and bridges and timely delivery of relief supplies during the ongoing rains.
During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the expected monsoon pattern and the overall preparedness to deal with heavy rains and potential flooding through coordinated efforts among provinces and institutions.
He said proactive measures had been taken, on the prime minister’s directives, to monitor the monsoon season more effectively.
Lt Gen Malik assured the prime minister that all relevant departments across the country were fully prepared to undertake rescue and relief operations in case of any weather-related emergency.
