KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday adjourned indefinitely the hearing of appeals challenging the acquittal of accused Anmol alias Pinky in three cases registered at Gizri Police Station.
A division bench rejected a request by the Prosecutor General Sindh seeking an urgent hearing of the appeals against the trial court’s decision.
During the proceedings, the prosecution sought additional time to produce the police files related to the cases. The court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
The prosecution contended that the acquittal of co-accused did not absolve Anmol Pinky of the allegations against her. It also argued that the delay in proceedings was linked to her alleged absconding.
The prosecution further informed the court that drug-related cases had also been registered against Anmol Pinky at other police stations and requested that the SHC set aside the trial court’s acquittal order.
An Additional District and Sessions Court (South) had acquitted Anmol Pinky in August in three drug-related cases registered at Gizri Police Station.
According to the defence, the cases were registered in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and Anmol had been declared a fugitive in all three.
The defence counsel said two co-accused, Ali and Fahmida, had already been acquitted in 2024. He argued that Anmol had been nominated on the basis of statements allegedly recorded by the co-accused and that the prosecution lacked sufficient evidence to secure her conviction.
The trial court subsequently approved her acquittal pleas in all three cases.
