PIA restricts air hostesses to one cigarette pack during duty

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has imposed new restrictions on the possession of cigarettes by air hostesses during flight duties.

According to a circular issued by the airline, an air hostess may carry only one packet of cigarettes during a flight duty, with the number limited to 20 cigarettes.

The airline warned that violations of the new directive could lead to disciplinary action, including suspension or removal from flight duties.

The latest directive follows restrictions introduced by PIA in June on smoking and the possession of tobacco products by cabin crew members.

Under the earlier policy, crew members were prohibited from carrying cigarettes, cigars and other tobacco products in their personal luggage. Smoking was also banned during flights, hotel stays and in public places while crew members were on duty.

PIA management directed cabin crew to strictly comply with the policy and warned that violations could result in suspension and disciplinary proceedings.

The airline said the measures were aimed at strengthening professional standards and discipline among operational staff.

The restrictions have also raised questions among employees regarding the difference between PIA’s internal staff rules and customs regulations, which allow airline crew members to carry limited quantities of cigarettes for personal use while travelling internationally.

PIA officials have reiterated that compliance with the airline’s instructions is mandatory and that violations will be dealt with under applicable disciplinary procedures.
