CM Maryam orders removal of three Suthra Punjab MDs over poor sanitation

LAHORE  –  Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the removal of the Managing Directors (MDs) of Suthra Punjab in Kasur, Faisalabad and Okara over complaints of poor sanitation, directing that officials removed from the programme for poor performance should not be given another government posting. Presiding over a meeting to review the performance of the Suthra Punjab programme, the chief minister expressed displeasure over sanitation conditions reported from various cities and directed that warnings be issued to other concerned MDs over poor performance.

The meeting decided to equip Field Monitoring Officers (FMOs) with body cameras to track their field activities. Maryam directed deputy commissioners to ensure daily monitoring of the FMOs and ordered the establishment of a dedicated monitoring section to oversee their performance.

She also directed that the Suthra Punjab beat system be made fully operational across the province and ordered the activation of digital challans through Safe City cameras as part of the anti-littering campaign. The chief minister set a 15-day deadline for improving the door-to-door waste collection system across the province.

According to a briefing, timely payment of salaries to Suthra Punjab workers had been completed in most tehsils of the province. Anti-littering squads are operating in all divisions and have so far conducted 77,137 inspections, issued 9,353 warnings and registered 19 challans for littering. In Lahore alone, the squads conducted 53,186 inspections, while 2,156 digital challans were issued through Safe City cameras. The meeting was further informed that 37,852 waste bins had been installed at different locations across Punjab. The Suthra Punjab programme has received 676,551 complaints from across the province, of which 99 per cent have been resolved, the briefing said.
