LHC disposes of plea seeking recovery of Imran Khan’s sisters

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday disposed of a petition seeking the recovery of PTI founder Imran Khan‘s three sisters after examining a report submitted by the Punjab home secretary regarding their continued detention.

Justice Abhar Gul Khan heard the petition filed by Shahraiz, seeking the recovery of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi.

During the hearing, the Punjab government’s counsel informed the court that the detention of the three women had been extended for another 30 days on October 7.

The petitioner’s counsel requested the court to order the recovery of the women and direct the authorities to produce them before the court.

However, the court observed that the detention notification had been issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner, who had not been made a respondent in the petition.

Petitioner’s counsel Rana Mudassar Umar acknowledged the issue, saying they were aware that the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments would pose a hurdle in the matter.

Justice Khan remarked that the petitioner should have been aware of the legal requirements before approaching the court. The judge observed that the court could not issue directions beyond the scope of the petition.

According to the petition, the Lahore deputy commissioner had initially ordered the detention of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi for 30 days.

The petitioner maintained that the detention period had expired, but the three women had not been released from custody.

The petition sought their recovery and production before the court.

After examining the home secretary’s report and hearing arguments from both sides, the LHC disposed of the petition.
