Seven arrested over fatal stampede at TikToker’s mehndi in Sialkot

Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that seven people have been arrested and two others are being sought in connection with the fatal stampede during a TikToker’s mehndi ceremony in Sialkot.

The minister said an FIR had been registered over alleged negligence and dereliction of duty, while raids were underway to arrest the remaining suspects.

She said the rule of law would be ensured and all those found responsible would be brought before the courts after a thorough investigation.

Bukhari explained that the administration had issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the event, with specific conditions regarding security and arrangements. Under these conditions, the administration was responsible for external security, while the organisers were required to manage arrangements inside the venue.

She described the incident as tragic and said negligence would not be tolerated, adding that those responsible would face legal action.

The minister also noted that the TikToker, known as Mr Patlu on social media, had promoted his wedding celebrations as a major event and announced prizes and a lucky draw, attracting thousands of people to the venue.

The large gathering reportedly became uncontrollable due to inadequate arrangements, triggering a stampede that left two people dead and several others injured.
