The Communist Party of China (CPC) has more than 100 million members and over 5.4 million primary-level Party organisations, giving it an organisational advantage unmatched by any other political party in the world, a senior official said.
Huang Jianfa, deputy head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, shared the figures at a press conference explaining the guiding principles of the fifth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, held in Beijing from October 26 to 29.
Huang said Party organisations at all levels, along with members and officials, were responsible for ensuring full and rigorous Party self-governance and played a key role in advancing the Party’s and country’s development.
He said the CPC had emphasised strengthening Party building in emerging sectors through a resolution adopted at the plenary session.
The Party will expand the coverage of its organisations and activities across new types of economic and social organisations, as well as among workers engaged in emerging forms of employment, to strengthen its appeal, cohesion and influence in these sectors, he added.
New types of economic organisations include non-public-sector enterprises and businesses operating in emerging industries, while social organisations encompass industry associations, chambers of commerce, social service agencies and community-based groups.Emerging forms of employment have developed alongside the expansion of the internet and digital economy, including food delivery couriers, ride-hailing drivers and online marketers who rely on digital platforms for work.
China currently has around 84 million people engaged in these new forms of employment. Huang said they played an important role in meeting daily needs, supporting livelihoods and sustaining economic activity.
