The Sindh government has decided to initiate the second phase of its pink scooter distribution programme for women, officials announced on Wednesday.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Senior Sindh Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting also approved the launch of four new routes of the People’s Bus Service in Khairpur, Shikarpur and Hyderabad to further facilitate commuters.
Memon had earlier described the pink scooter initiative as a significant step toward women’s empowerment, aimed at providing safe, affordable and dignified mobility options. He said the programme particularly benefits women who rely on public transport for education, employment and daily travel needs.
The minister said the scheme would help reduce travel costs, save time and create a secure commuting environment. Applications and data of eligible women and students are being handled through the Sindh Mass Transit Authority.
Scooter distribution, he added, will be based on merit and financial need through a transparent mechanism developed by the provincial government.
Memon urged women—especially students and working professionals—to make full use of the facility, reiterating that the government is committed to enhancing women’s independence and participation in all spheres of life.
