Shab-e-Barat will be observed across the country tonight with religious devotion and solemnity, as Muslims engage in special prayers and acts of worship seeking divine mercy and forgiveness.
Mosques and homes are expected to host night-long congregations where worshippers will offer nawafil prayers, recite the Holy Quran and make supplications. Many people will also visit graveyards to pray for their departed relatives.
Religious scholars describe Shab-e-Barat, observed on the 15th night of Shaban, as a night of immense blessings and spiritual significance. They say that although Allah Almighty’s mercy is ever-present, certain occasions are granted special importance, and this night is regarded as one of them.
Ulema note that the night provides an opportunity for repentance, with believers seeking forgiveness for their sins and praying for guidance and well-being. They add that, according to religious tradition, matters relating to sustenance, life and death for the coming year are decreed by Allah’s command on this blessed night.
Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology Allama Raghib Naeemi said Shab-e-Barat is also referred to as Lailat-ul-Mubarakah (the Blessed Night). Citing various hadiths, he encouraged the faithful to spend the night in worship and observe fasting the following day, describing it as a time when deeds are presented before Allah Almighty.
Authorities have also made arrangements to facilitate worshippers and ensure security around major mosques and religious sites.
