Governor calls for coordination to counter terror financing

Peshawar  –  Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday called for stronger coordination among parliament, law-enforcement agencies and civil society to effectively combat terrorism and its financing.

He was addressing a provincial dialogue titled “Parliamentary Role and Institutional Capacity Building in Counter-Terrorism and Terrorist Financing”, organised by the Sustainable Social Development Organization with support from the British High Commission in Peshawar.

The governor said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had remained on the frontline of Pakistan’s fight against terrorism, adding that the province’s people, police and security forces had made significant sacrifices to restore peace.

The event was attended by SSDO Executive Director Syed Kausar Abbas, parliamentarians, law-enforcement officials, civil society representatives and academics. Mr Kundi said Pakistan had developed a comprehensive legal and institutional framework to counter terrorism and its financing, but stressed that effective implementation required active parliamentary oversight and coordination among institutions.

He added that security measures alone were insufficient and that long-term stability required education, community engagement and inclusive development.

The governor expressed hope that recommendations from the dialogue would strengthen policymaking and institutional cooperation aimed at ensuring lasting peace in the province.
