PM Shehbaz Sharif vows support for vulnerable amid Gulf crisis

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured that economically vulnerable segments of society will not be left unsupported during the ongoing Gulf crisis, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public relief and fiscal prudence.

Chairing a high-level meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed the impact of the regional crisis on petroleum products, domestic fuel stocks, and ongoing relief measures for the public. The session included briefings on government actions to conserve fuel, plans for future supply, and detailed reports on existing reserves. The Intelligence Bureau also presented an audit of the progress of the Prime Minister’s austerity campaign and savings initiatives.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted measures already taken by the government, including reducing official expenditures, cutting the development budget, and suspending 60 percent of government vehicles. He noted that proposals to increase fuel prices were repeatedly rejected, with savings redirected toward public relief. Relief measures are being delivered through digital platforms to ensure transparency and effectiveness.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that adequate fuel and medicine stocks exist to meet national needs and that arrangements are being made to secure future supplies. He emphasized that despite global challenges, timely decisions have ensured uninterrupted fuel availability while Pakistan continues diplomatic efforts to maintain regional peace.

In addition, the government is accelerating registration processes for motorcycle and rickshaw owners in coordination with provincial authorities to extend targeted relief.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers including Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Dr. Musadiq Malik, Muhammad Aurangzeb, provincial advisers, special assistants, MNAs, and senior officials.

The Prime Minister reiterated that the government’s priority is to protect the most vulnerable and ensure relief reaches citizens efficiently during these challenging times.
