Heavy rain, hailstorms lash parts of country

A fresh spell of rain and hailstorms affected several parts of the country on Sunday, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, with authorities warning of further wet weather in the coming hours.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall was reported in multiple districts, including Swat Valley, Karak, Malakand, Abbottabad and Mansehra. Snowfall in Galiyat and Naran Valley led to a noticeable drop in temperatures.

In Neelum Valley, tourists stranded after a landslide were rescued following an overnight operation after around 30 vehicles became stuck in the Sheikh Bela area. Rescue teams, police and local administration shifted the affected individuals to safer locations. However, intermittent rainfall persisted, while landslides blocked portions of the Neelum Highway near Muzaffarabad.

Rain was also reported in the upper areas of Ziarat Valley, as well as Toba Achakzai and Toba Kakari. Meanwhile, a landslide near Lachi Nala temporarily blocked the Karakoram Highway, disrupting traffic.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further rainfall in the upper parts of the country, while the National Disaster Management Authority warned of heavy rain in several areas over the next 12 to 24 hours. Snowfall is also expected in mountainous regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution, warning that slippery roads and the risk of landslides could disrupt travel, particularly in hilly areas.
