Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday met Jamaat-i-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at the party’s headquarters, Mansoora, in Lahore, where the two leaders discussed the country’s political, economic and security situation, along with recent regional developments.
According to a statement, the meeting focused in particular on the evolving regional landscape following the recently announced understanding between Iran and the United States.
Both leaders welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step towards regional peace and stability. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating the understanding and commended the country’s diplomatic efforts.
During the meeting, Naqvi briefed the JI chief on developments related to the negotiations and the government’s efforts in support of the peace process.
The Jamaat-i-Islami leader also raised the issue of Pakistani citizens stranded in Somalia and urged the government to intensify diplomatic efforts to ensure their safe and early return.
The two sides further exchanged views on measures aimed at strengthening the national economy and providing relief to the public.
Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Pakistan’s role in facilitating the understanding would be remembered and expressed hope that the development would contribute to lasting peace in the region.
Naqvi credited Pakistan’s leadership for its contribution to regional stability, saying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir had played an important role in efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
“We are grateful to Almighty Allah for accepting our humble efforts in the cause of peace,” the interior minister said.
