LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday visited Kahna area of Lahore to meet the families of children killed and injured in the recent roof collapse at a tuition centre and announced financial assistance for the affected families and assuring them of the provincial government’s continued support. The chief minister met the bereaved parents, offered condolences and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for children injured in the incident. Under the provincial government’s relief package, she handed over compensation cheques of Rs2 million to the family of each deceased child and Rs500,000 to every injured child.’Speaking with the affected families, Maryam Nawaz described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy and said no financial assistance could compensate for the loss of innocent lives. “There are too few words to express such profound grief. No amount of money can compensate for the tears of bereaved mothers,” she said.
The chief minister observed that the tuition centre should have been evacuated immediately after the first signs of structural failure appeared, saying timely action could have helped avert the tragedy.
She said those found responsible for negligence would be held accountable in accordance with the law. “I cannot avert the trials decreed by Almighty Allah, but I will not spare those responsible for negligence,” she said. Expressing sympathy with the grieving families, Maryam Nawaz said she understood their pain as a mother herself and assured them that the provincial government would continue to stand by them during this difficult time. “Your children’s loss is my own loss,” she said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to extending every possible assistance to the affected families.
