The Sindh government has decided to open the mixed traffic lane on University Road in the coming days to ease traffic congestion caused by the ongoing Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials reviewed the progress of the Red Line BRT project and ongoing construction activities.
Officials informed the meeting that work on various sections of the project is progressing at pace, with all relevant departments coordinating to ensure timely completion.
Sharjeel Memon termed the Red Line BRT a transformative transport project for Karachi, stressing that completing it within the scheduled timeframe remains one of the Sindh government’s top priorities.
He directed all concerned departments to meet their assigned deadlines and ensure the project is completed on schedule.
The senior minister said the provincial government is committed to providing citizens with modern, efficient and environmentally friendly public transport facilities.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah conducted an early-morning inspection of key infrastructure projects across Karachi, including the Red Line BRT corridor, Shahrah-e-Bhutto and Pahalwan Goth Road.
During the visit, he directed authorities to complete all mixed-traffic lanes along the Red Line corridor within two months while maintaining quality and transparency in development work.
The chief minister inspected the Red Line route from Peoples Chowrangi to Safoora Chowrangi before reviewing rehabilitation work at Pahalwan Goth and later assessing progress on Shahrah-e-Bhutto from the Bheem Pura flyover to Kathore, where he issued on-site instructions to project teams.
