Pakistan has raised alarm over the worsening situation in the occupied West Bank and called on the international community to take immediate steps to protect Palestinians.
Speaking at the United Nations, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, said the situation in the occupied West Bank was rapidly deteriorating and urged the UN Security Council to respond without delay.
Asim Iftikhar said Israel’s actions were aimed at strengthening and expanding its occupation, while the continued growth of settlements had reached alarming proportions. He said the expansion of settlements in different areas was also being used as an attempt to fragment Palestinian territory.
The Pakistani envoy called for an immediate end to violence by Israeli settlers and stressed that those responsible should be held accountable for their actions.
He also expressed serious concern over what he described as provocative actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing the need for international protection for the Palestinian people.
Asim Iftikhar further called on the UN Security Council to act on UNICEF’s recommendations and take concrete measures to address the worsening humanitarian and security situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
