The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has withdrawn its earlier decision regarding the implementation of a five-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme and initiated a comprehensive review of its academic structure and curriculum.
According to the council, the notification outlining the framework for the five-year BDS programme has been withdrawn. The decision to introduce the programme had been announced on July 8.
The PMDC said it had now initiated a comprehensive review of the BDS programme’s academic structure and curriculum, along with the existing framework governing house job and internship requirements.A final decision on the five-year programme will be taken after the review is completed, the council said.
The PMDC added that details of the revised BDS framework would be announced following the completion of the review process.
The council has also written to recognised medical and dental universities across the country, informing them about the withdrawal of the earlier notification and the ongoing review.
