Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has called for flexibility from all sides to find political solutions to political problems, saying the current political environment remains cold and negotiations have made no progress.
Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar acknowledged that meetings with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had taken place and said such engagements continued. He stressed that dialogue should continue, but noted that there had been no progress so far.
Regarding PTI’s planned September 27 long march towards Islamabad, he said the party would not violate any law or block roads during the protest. He also assured that government resources would not be used for the march.
Commenting on court proceedings related to the protest, Barrister Gohar said the court should not have sought an affidavit from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police. He also said no impression should be created that the people and police of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would confront each other.
He said efforts were underway to enhance the capacity of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, adding that the provincial government had spent Rs45 billion on the police department last year.
Barrister Gohar further said PTI would ensure there was no political interference in police affairs. He said the chief minister’s powers over the police would not be used according to personal preferences and that efforts would instead focus on improving the department.
