Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and reiterated the armed forces’ resolve to eliminate terrorism and ensure lasting peace in the country.
During a visit to Corps Headquarters Peshawar, the army chief was briefed on the prevailing security situation in the province, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management measures and the operational preparedness of formations deployed in the region, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Field Marshal Munir said the armed forces, with the support of the nation, remained determined to defeat terrorism and ensure peace and stability across the country. He directed formations to maintain vigilance and the highest standards of operational preparedness.
The army chief also praised the morale, readiness and professionalism of officers and troops and acknowledged their commitment to safeguarding the country and its people.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-i-Shuhada and offered Fateha for personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty and in counterterrorism operations. He said their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
The visit comes days after a deadly attack on the old Police Lines in Kohat, where at least 21 people were killed and more than 100 injured after militants targeted the compound during Friday prayers. Police later said eight attackers were killed during the ensuing clearance operation.Field Marshal Munir was received by the Peshawar Corps commander upon his arrival at the headquarters.
