Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday clarified that the government has no intention of ending provincial autonomy, emphasizing that the ongoing constitutional amendment aims to strengthen the country rather than benefit any political party.
Speaking to the media at the Pakistan High Commission in London, Ahsan Iqbal said, “There are no intentions to abrogate provincial autonomy, but there are some issues that need to be resolved soon.”
He added that the proposed constitutional amendment “brings no political advantage to the PML-N but serves the national interest,” expressing optimism that consensus on the matter would be achieved soon.
The minister also lauded Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, saying, “Field Marshal Asim Munir has demonstrated valiant leadership and earned global recognition for his capabilities. The world is now seeing Pakistan in a new light.”
He further commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for “extending political support to the armed forces through his visionary leadership.”
It is pertinent to mention that the federal cabinet on Saturday approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which proposes the establishment of a Constitutional Court to handle constitutional matters exclusively and the creation of a new defence command position under Article 243 of the Constitution.
