Sheikh Rashid urges govt to allow meetings with Imran Khan

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that everyone should be allowed to meet PTI founder Imran Khan in jail, adding that such meetings would “not change anything.”

Speaking to reporters outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), he said the public was already struggling under severe inflation and poverty, and urged the government to prioritise improving the country’s overall situation instead of creating hurdles in jail visits.

Commenting on the May 9 cases, Sheikh Rashid reiterated that he was not even in the country at the time, yet cases had been registered against him. He added that people had been handed sentences of up to 40 years, including his nephew Rashid Shafiq.

The former minister stressed that Pakistan needed to be steered toward stability and improvement, calling for political calm and relief for the masses.
