Interior ministry removes 13 officers over Greece boat tragedy lapses

The Federal Ministry of Interior on Monday dismissed 13 officers on charges of negligence, corruption and misconduct—many linked to the 2023 Greece boat tragedy—after rejecting their appeals against disciplinary action.

According to official sources, the Federal Secretary of Interior terminated several officials for their involvement in unprofessional practices. A Deputy Director and two Assistant Directors posted at Karachi Airport were dismissed, while an Assistant Director at Faisalabad Airport was also removed after charges related to the Greece boat incident were proven.

A Deputy Director at Multan Airport was demoted in rank and salary for three years over alleged connections with human smugglers. Two senior investigators were dismissed for poor investigation performance, and an Assistant Database Administrator was terminated for negligence.

Four Assistant Directors and one Inspector received reductions in their basic salaries for one to three years due to absenteeism, weak investigations and negligence. At Islamabad Airport, an Assistant Director and an Inspector were formally censured for mishandling a detainee.

Appeals filed by six sub-inspectors, one ASI, three head constables and five constables were rejected, upholding their dismissal from service.

The Interior Ministry also confirmed the dismissal of an LDC for chronic absenteeism. Meanwhile, penalties issued to a Superintendent and a Sub-Inspector were softened from promotion stoppage to censure.
