Aleema Khan challenges indictment in Nov 26 protest case

Aleema Khan has filed an appeal in the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench against her indictment in cases related to the November 26 protest.

The appeal, submitted through her counsel Faisal Malik Advocate, came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Sultan Mehmood. During the preliminary hearing, the registrar office raised an objection over the non-attachment of a certified copy of the FIR with the petition.

The bench directed Aleema Khan’s lawyer to remove the objection and complete the required documentation before the appeal could proceed. The petition contends that Aleema Khan was indicted in her absence, terming the move legally improper.

The plea seeks directions for the trial court to conduct the framing of charges afresh in accordance with the law and to ensure that the petitioner is given a proper opportunity of hearing as required under legal procedures.

The court instructed the defense counsel to address the registrar office’s objections, after which the petition will be fixed for hearing.
