United States President Donald Trump has invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to become part of the Gaza Board of Peace, a body being formed to address the ongoing crisis in the Palestinian territory.
The Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that Pakistan has formally received the invitation to join the peace board established for Gaza. Responding to media queries, the spokesperson said Pakistan would continue to play an active role in international initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.
He reiterated that Pakistan remains in close contact with the international community to support efforts for lasting peace in Gaza, stressing that a just and durable solution to the Palestine issue must be achieved in accordance with United Nations resolutions. Pakistan, he added, would continue to support diplomatic efforts for long-term peace in the Middle East.
According to international media reports, the White House has already announced several members of the Gaza Board of Peace, which has been created under President Trump’s peace initiative. The board is expected to coordinate on security arrangements, humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts, while also encouraging reforms in the Palestinian Authority and governance structures.
President Trump has named himself as chair of the board and appointed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British prime minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and senior negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff as members. Leaders from Egypt, Türkiye, Argentina and Canada have also confirmed receiving invitations to join the panel.
Meanwhile, Israel has rejected the formation of the Gaza peace board, terming it inconsistent with Israeli government policy. According to foreign media, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was not consulted on the creation of the board, adding that Foreign Minister Gideon Saar plans to raise the issue with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
