Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to step up security arrangements throughout Punjab in response to ongoing security challenges. The decision was taken during a high-level law and order meeting chaired by the chief minister, where officials presented a detailed overview of the prevailing situation.
During the session, law enforcement agencies were instructed to maintain strict oversight of individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule, along with other suspected elements. In light of the regional tensions arising from the Israel-Iran conflict, the provincial administration has been placed on heightened alert, with surveillance measures further expanded.
The chief minister ordered reinforced security at commercial hubs, including shopping malls, major markets, and other crowded public spaces. District administrations and police across all regions have been told to remain vigilant and closely monitor any suspicious activity. Entry and exit points across the province will also see stricter checks to prevent potential threats.
Additional security personnel are being deployed at key business centers, while search and combing operations in sensitive areas are being intensified. Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of rapid response capabilities to handle any untoward incidents, warning that no individual or group would be permitted to disrupt public order.
Authorities informed the meeting that credible security threats persist, necessitating the continuation of the high-alert status. Section 144 has been enforced across Punjab until March 7, banning gatherings of four or more individuals and prohibiting the public display of weapons as a precaution against possible terrorist activities and disturbances.
The meeting also assessed progress on the repatriation of undocumented foreign nationals and preparations to manage protest activities. Officials reported that 32,729 illegal foreign residents, including Afghan nationals, have so far been deported. At present, 346 individuals remain at holding centers. Among those repatriated are 12,356 men, 6,673 women, and 13,700 children.
Security agencies are maintaining comprehensive monitoring of sensitive installations and red zones, while legal action is being taken against individuals spreading anti-state or security-related content on social media platforms.
The briefing was attended by senior officials, including Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman, Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi, senior Special Branch representatives, and Counter-Terrorism Department authorities.
