PM Shehbaz to chair cabinet meeting today

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to chair a meeting of the federal cabinet today (Wednesday), with discussions expected to focus on the evolving situation in the Middle East following a reported ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

According to sources, the prime minister will take the cabinet into confidence regarding regional developments and apprise members of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that reportedly contributed to the ceasefire. The development has been described by officials as a significant diplomatic breakthrough.

The cabinet is also expected to review the country’s petroleum product reserves and deliberate on possible adjustments to fuel prices amid ongoing global uncertainties.

Earlier, PM Shehbaz announced that Iran and the United States, along with their respective allies, had agreed to an immediate ceasefire across multiple regions, including Lebanon. He termed the development a major diplomatic achievement for Pakistan.

In a post on his social media account, the prime minister welcomed the move and expressed gratitude to the leadership of both countries. He also extended an invitation to their delegations to visit Islamabad on April 10 for further negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting agreement.

“We earnestly hope that the Islamabad talks will lead to sustainable peace, and we look forward to sharing more positive developments in the coming days,” he said.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reportedly agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran shortly before a stated deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, amid rising tensions that had threatened to escalate further.
