US, Iran delegations to arrive in Islamabad for talks

High-level delegations from the United States and Iran are scheduled to arrive in the federal capital on Friday for key diplomatic engagements aimed at facilitating dialogue between the two countries.

According to official sources, US Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation, accompanied by senior officials including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. A 23-member advance team, comprising security personnel and support staff, has already reached Islamabad to oversee logistical arrangements.

On the Iranian side, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to arrive later in the day.

Earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed that US President Donald Trump had dispatched a delegation to Pakistan for negotiatio ns with Iran. The talks are scheduled to take place in Islamabad on Saturday morning.

Separately, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about Tehran’s participation in the upcoming dialogue.

In a statement posted on X, the prime minister expressed gratitude to friendly nations for their support in facilitating the ceasefire and diplomatic efforts. He thanked China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt and Qatar for their “invaluable and all-out support” in advancing peace initiatives.

PM Sharif also acknowledged the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, noting that their continued commitment to regional stability remained vital for ongoing efforts.

He further appreciated the leadership of partner countries, including the United States, for demonstrating “strategic foresight, sagacity and patience” in allowing diplomacy to prevail.

The prime minister concluded by thanking international partners for recognising Pakistan’s efforts towards global peace, urging all sides to work collectively for a lasting resolution to the conflict.
