Bilawal says Iran sanctions relief would benefit global community

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and a former foreign minister, on Friday said that the lifting of sanctions on Iran would not only benefit Pakistan but also the wider global community.

His remarks come as Pakistan prepares to host high-stakes ceasefire talks in Islamabad between Iran and the United States, with officials stating that all arrangements for the negotiations have been finalised.

Referring to the recent ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, Bilawal Bhutto said the world was increasingly looking towards Pakistan as a constructive player in efforts to promote peace. He added that the international community expected Islamabad to contribute to maintaining global stability.

Expressing optimism about the upcoming talks, he said their success could pave the way for the removal of sanctions on Iran, benefiting not only Pakistan but a broader global community.

The PPP chairman also criticised Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, saying India’s stance reflected a narrow outlook. He said the Indian minister’s remarks underscored frustration and a limited perspective, while Pakistan was steadily emerging on the global stage.

Bilawal stressed that Pakistan and India must not leave their disputes unresolved, noting that despite recurring tensions, the two countries had reached ceasefires on several occasions.

He said the current ceasefire should serve as a starting point for a broader and sustainable peace process, adding that prolonged conflicts had taken an economic toll on the people of both nations.
