The government has abolished the provision of free electricity units for power sector employees in a landmark decision aimed at reforms in the energy sector.
Minister for Power Awais Leghari announced the development in a post on X, stating that for the first time in the country’s history, the facility has been withdrawn under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He said the Lahore High Court had accepted the petition filed by the Power Division, paving the way for the decision.
The minister termed the move a long-standing public demand, adding that the government is committed to taking necessary steps for the collective betterment of the country.
The decision is being viewed as part of broader efforts to improve transparency and reduce financial burden in the power sector.
