The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday expressed optimism over the possibility of an agreement between the United States and Iran, saying Pakistan hoped ongoing exchanges between the two sides would lead to a positive outcome.
Speaking during the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said details of the communication between Washington and Tehran could not be disclosed at this stage.
He said it remained unclear whether the potential agreement would take the form of a brief understanding or a more comprehensive document.
Commenting on regional water issues, the spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s position on the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that the country remained committed to safeguarding its water resources
“Not a single drop of Pakistan’s water can be taken illegally,” he said, adding that all options relating to the treaty were under consideration.
The Foreign Office said the international community continued to closely monitor the peace and security situation in South Asia.
It added that Pakistani authorities, including the Indus Water Commissioner, were closely observing river conditions to ensure effective management of water resources.
The briefing coincided with the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq, on which Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had earlier briefed officials.
