Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to begin preparations for the upcoming monsoon season to deal with any possible emergency situation.
During a meeting with Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Masood Malik in Islamabad, the prime minister stressed the need for continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas and ordered officials to further strengthen the early warning system.
He said special attention should be given to improving preparedness ahead of heavy rains and possible flooding during the monsoon period.
The prime minister was briefed on overall arrangements and planning related to this year’s monsoon season.
Officials also informed him about the progress and performance of the early warning systems installed for flash floods and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in mountainous regions.
