In a statement, Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan thanked the government for reducing petrol prices, saying the move would benefit both transporters and the general public.
He expressed hope that fuel prices would come down further in the coming days. According to him, goods transporters had continued operating despite financial losses during challenging economic conditions, keeping national interests in mind.
Malik Shehzad Awan also called on the federal government to withdraw the increase in withholding tax proposed in the 2026-27 budget.
He urged the federal and provincial governments to provide additional relief to the transport sector by reducing toll taxes, withholding taxes, e-challan charges, and motorway police fines.
The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance president said the transport industry contributes significantly in taxes and should, in return, receive better facilities and support from both federal and provincial authorities.
