PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms in upper parts of country

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday forecast rain accompanied by windstorms and thunderstorms at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Punjab during the next 24 hours.

The weather is expected to remain mainly hot and dry across most other parts of the country.

According to the PMD, Islamabad and adjoining areas are likely to experience partly cloudy conditions with chances of rain and thunderstorms.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, isolated rain-thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Karak, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mohmand, Khyber, North and South Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Parachinar, Hangu and Kurram.

In Punjab, similar weather conditions are likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah and Mianwali.

Sindh is expected to remain predominantly hot and dry, though partly cloudy weather may prevail in some upper districts.

Most districts of Balochistan are also likely to experience hot and dry weather. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected in Kohlu, Nasirabad, Harnai, Sibi, Barkhan and Khuzdar.

The PMD further said partly cloudy weather with rain and thunderstorms is expected at isolated places in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
