The next round of negotiations between the United States and Iran is expected to be held in Pakistan on July 11, where both countries are likely to discuss a range of important issues.
According to Arab media reports, the agenda will include US sanctions on Iran, the release of Tehran’s frozen assets, and developments related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
Al Arabiya reported that a final decision on who will lead the Iranian delegation will be taken after the burial of Iran’s late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The report added that the official lineup of the Iranian delegation is expected to be announced once the funeral ceremonies are completed.
Earlier, tens of thousands of mourners gathered at a large prayer complex in Tehran on Saturday to pay their last respects to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who led the Islamic Republic for 37 years before being killed at the beginning of the US-Israeli war on Iran.
Many mourners, dressed in black and carrying Iran’s national flags, held posters and printed photographs of Khamenei as well as his son and successor as supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
Iran is holding large-scale funeral processions for Khamenei, who was killed in February during the opening airstrikes of the conflict launched by the United States and Israel. The ceremonies are being seen as a display of public support for the Islamic Republic’s religious leadership and revolutionary ideals.
