The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast a fresh spell of rain in several parts of the country from July 7 to 10, with showers and thunderstorms expected in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, the Potohar region and northeastern Punjab.
According to the authority, the weather system is likely to enter the northern parts of the country on Monday, bringing widespread rain accompanied by thunder and lightning over the four-day period.
The NDMA said rainfall is also expected in areas along the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers. The precipitation may lead to a slight increase in river flows, while inflows into Tarbela and Mangla dams are also projected to rise.
The authority said the forecast rainfall does not pose a threat of large-scale river flooding. However, water levels in hill torrents and seasonal streams could increase.
It also warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying urban areas and cautioned that landslides may occur in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the forecast period.
