LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday approved the establishment of Aitchison-standard boys’ and girls’ schools across the province and gave the green light for the first Maryam Nawaz Centre of Academic Leadership in Lahore, marking a major initiative to raise educational standards in the public sector. The approval was granted during a meeting on school education chaired by the chief minister, where officials presented a detailed briefing on the proposed institution and its academic framework.
Maryam Nawaz also approved the pilot project for the Maryam Nawaz Centre of Academic Leadership, which will be established on Wahdat Road in Lahore. According to the briefing, the state-of-the-art institution will initially accommodate 10,000 students, including 5,000 boys and 5,000 girls.
Officials informed the meeting that the centre would be equipped with world-class academic and co-curricular facilities designed to provide students with an educational environment comparable to the country’s premier institutions. The campus will include modern classrooms, advanced learning resources and comprehensive sports infrastructure.
The proposed centre will feature a modern sports hall, dedicated hockey and cricket stadiums, horse-riding facilities and a swimming pool, reflecting the government’s emphasis on promoting both academic excellence and physical development.
The chief minister said the initiative was part of the Punjab government’s broader vision to provide high-quality education and equal learning opportunities to talented students across the province. She emphasised that modern educational institutions equipped with international-standard facilities would help nurture future leaders and prepare students to compete at national and global levels.
