A team of Pakistani students has won three medals at the 3rd International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026), held in Jeddah from August 2 to 8, APP reported on Saturday.
The competition brought together 120 secondary-school students and experts from 19 countries, with the event aimed at promoting excellence and international cooperation in nuclear science and technology.
According to APP, Team Pakistan secured one gold and two silver medals during the week-long competition.
Muhammad Ali, representing Government College University (GCU), Lahore, won the gold medal, while Muhammad Usman of F.G. Sir Syed College, Rawalpindi, and Seerat Fatima Bhatti of Nixor College, Karachi, secured silver medals.
Syed Shuja Haider of Sundar STEM School, Lahore, also represented Pakistan at the competition.
The Pakistani team was selected and trained by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).
The students were selected through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad (PANSO), a PAEC initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing young scientific talent for international competitions.
Following their selection, the students received specialised training and guidance from PIEAS faculty members and experts to prepare them for the academic and competitive requirements of the Olympiad.
PAEC said the students’ performance reflected Pakistan’s continued efforts to develop young scientific talent and encourage students to pursue education and careers in nuclear science and technology.
Pakistan has also been selected to host the 4th International Nuclear Science Olympiad in 2027, according to PAEC.
