The nation is celebrating Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day today with national zeal and fervour, renewing its pledge to uphold the spirit of the Pakistan Movement and work towards making the country a true Islamic welfare state.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes at provincial headquarters. Special prayers were also offered at mosques for the country’s peace, solidarity, prosperity and progress.
Flag-hoisting ceremonies are being held at federal, provincial, divisional and district headquarters across the country.
Buildings, streets, markets and public places have been decorated with national flags, buntings and colourful lights, giving cities and towns a festive look.
A range of programmes, including seminars, exhibitions, cultural events and other activities, have been organised to commemorate Independence Day and highlight the sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers
A Change of Guard ceremony is also being held at the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi.
In their messages on the occasion, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces; Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff; and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, extended heartfelt felicitations to the nation on the 79th Independence Day on behalf of the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
